Design Engineer / Senior Design Engineer

We are looking for a Design Engineer / Senior Design Engineer to join our Outdoor Business Unit. The design team is located in our headquarters Salo, Finland but we are open to consider also other locations, e.g. Germany. The aim is to fill this position with the best possible candidate and therefore there is flexibility in regards of the location.

As a Design Engineer you will be an essential member in our design team working at the very core of the fundamental R&D processes. You get to work in an inspiring international work environment together with world class optical professionals.


The key responsibilities will be:

  • Product design – optical and mechanical design + part verification
  • Product creation process – follow Product Creation process to fulfill tasks and deliverables defined in the process
  • Customer service – external and internal customers
  • Link between customer need and factory capability – being part of the overall solution from idea to manufactured part
  • R&D continuous development – process and knowledge, way of working development

You will work closely together with other designers, laboratory, product management and sales people. You will also have direct contact with our customers.


What do we expect of you?

Our Design Engineer has a degree in engineering. Work experience in plastic part design and in product development tasks is required. This position requires 3D CAD skills and technical communication skills. Experience in lighting and optical parts is highly appreciated. Your personal characteristics include strong initiative, good co-operation and communication skills. You are a team player who finds time to sit down with a colleague to support and spar their projects.

We also appreciate following skills:

  • You can co-operate in a multi-cultural environment and you are fluent in English, both written and oral
  • Problem solving and logical thinking skills are essential
  • Knowledge of plastics materials, production methods and tooling
  • Optical simulation experience
  • Zemax and LightTools
  • CATIA V5
