PROJECT

The Astrahanskiy Bridge in the heart of Volgograd, Russia, spans the dry riverbed of what was once a part of the Tsaritsa river. Built in the 1960s the reinforced concrete bridge superstructure towers over the grass and stunted tress of the overgrown riverbed below. With future tourism in mind, the city council commissioned Boos Lighting Group to turn the bridge into a statement feature. Without water to accentuate the architectural beauty of the bridge, Boos came up with a dynamic LED lighting solution that interacts with the grass and trees below to create a unique image.

SOLUTION

Boos decided to use multi-chip RGBW LEDs for the project. Because of their perfect colour mixing properties, ease of installation and ability to change light distribution with a separate sub lens, they chose LEDiL's RGBX-О lenses for the job. Mating the lenses with architectural floodlights they were able to create the controllable dynamic lighting solution they wanted.

BENEFITS

The finished architectural lighting emphasizes the symmetry of the reinforced concrete structure. The five-mode dynamic lighting solution can be controlled to literally ‘paint’ the bridge in different colours. The architectural bridge lighting accentuates the bridge’s features against the natural beauty of the surrounding local park.
