LEDiL Webcast Q & A: Efficient & neighbour-friendly sports lighting

How do we simulate different lens combinations for use in a single fixture in dialux? Simulating helps in choosing best optics without having to make the actual physical product.

You can download IES files from the LEDiL website and then combine these in Photoview software or Dialux itself.

Concerning the SPORT-2X2, what is the material of the lens and is the optic IP65 graded? Do they need to be placed in an enclosed body and use glass to let light flux go through?

SPORT-2X2 lenses are made from optical grade PMMA with very high efficiency. The lenses are not ingress protected. Typically, sports lighting luminaires have protective glass in front of the optics.

Is there STRADA-IP-16 available in silicone material? if not, does LEDiL have plans to develop such a product?

Currently there is no silicone version of STRADA-IP-16 optics available. Please contact your local LEDiL sales if you need one.

When you are showing results of lighting calculations, are you considering that your lenses are integrated inside a product with a protector such as glass?

In our application examples we are simulating complete luminaires.

Where do you use FT6 and FT60?

FT6 and FT60 are more or less the same products – differences are mainly in the way the lenses are optimized for different LEDs. These narrow forward throw optics have typically very narrow tolerances, so we have narrower design window as well.

Is SPORT-2X2 IP rated?

SPORT-2X2 lenses are not. We do have IP-rated optics as well, contact your local LEDiL sales and they help you find the best solution for your application.

Are the SPORT-2X2 optics optimized for 3535 with primary optic or midpower?

SPORT-2X2 lenses are optimized for 3535 and 5050 flat packages such as Nichia NV4WB35, Luxeon 5050, OSCONIQ/DURIS S8 etc.

What are parameters for Indoor Sports complex lighting and suggestions for light uniformity & intensity?

Depends entirely on the sports planned to be played in the complex. Different lighting organizations have published their recommendations (f.ex. Illumination Engineering Society’s IES RP-6-15) and also various professional sports associations have their own specific requirements.

Are symmetrical optics more advantageous to asymmetric optics? If yes, in what applications?

Depends entirely on the lighting setup and type of installation. Both have their places – Updates to existing lighting are usually done to the same poles so in these case symmetrical beams are a better fit. Asymmetrical forward throw beams on the other hand have less uplight.

Is the SPORT-2X2 compatible with OSRAM HP 3800lm Brick?

It can be used and is mechanically compatible, but the optics are more optimized for flat packages.

Is there a plan in the future for these lenses to come in IP – silicone version?

Most likely.

Are these lenses superior to “reflectors” like the ones used in the Disano forum LED or Siteco Sirius?

Both reflectors and lenses have their pros and cons and it is impossible to say in general that one is superior to another.

Are the sport lenses used like a streetlight fixture? With fixtures more or less parallel to the ground?

SPORT-2X2-FT series is used this way. SPORT-2X2-S series is designed to face towards an aiming point.

Has LEDiL looked into any optic material that would be suitable for outdoor open luminaires? Something that would not require a secondary enclosure?

We have our range of IP-rated lenses of which we have years of experience in harsh outdoor environments.

Which side of the blue polar has to be used to light the field of the semi-symmetrical beams?

The side which is bulging further out should be the side facing towards the field. This is the side where the candela peak is as well.
